ABOUT US

Bloom's Taxonomy is a bookstore, cafe & bar, and writing/textual arts project space coming in 2026 to Santa Fe, New Mexico.

We will be serving botanical cocktails off of a literary-inspired menu, and feature a curated collection of texts including experimental prose and poetry; queer, feminist, abolitionist literature; and artist books; with a focus on voices underrepresented in mainstream publishing.

"Bloom's Taxonomy" is based on the pedagogical framework named after Benjamin Bloom that refers to categorization of educational objectives — learning and the exchange of ideas amongst a backdrop that encourages play will be a defining element of the world we

are creating between the walls of our business.

SERVICES

THE PROCESS

LIQUOR LICENSING

New Mexico has strict and specific alcohol beverage control laws. We are in the process of working with brokers and attorneys to locate an available license and negotiate favorable leasing terms.

FUNDRAISING

FINDING A HOME

Through a combination of small business grants, other investors, and crowdfunding, we hope to raise enough to cover startup costs as well as operations for the first months of business.

The right brick & mortar space is integral to cultivating the atmosphere that's part of our vision. In a few months we hope to be ready to explore commercial real estate options fit for Bloom's.

OUR WORK

THE FOUNDER

Chaya Babu is a South Asian American writer, reporter, educator, and community organizer. She birthed the idea of Bloom's Taxonomy after moving to Santa Fe, where she fell into a rich landscape of visual arts, working at a local gallery and forging friendships with painters, sculptors, photographers, and other artists. But she longed for a grassroots space dedicated to writing as a practice of liberation and to gather with like-minded folks. Chaya hopes Bloom's offers a third place in The City Different.
